"600 years ago, a man named Zheng He led a fleet of ships to discover the world . He thus opened what was to be called the Silk Road of the Sea. This year, foreign and Chinese bike lovers are gathering for a bike festival in Taicang in a similar international spirit.

Taicang City is in the south east part of Jiangsu Province at the south end of the Yangtze River. The city sits on the plains of one of the Yangtze’s three bifurcations. The topography is flat with a slight slant in the north-east/south-west direction. The overall topography is flat and very suitable for road bike racing.

The Bike Festival will include an Elite Group, Open Group, Middle School Group and Children’s Race as well as Company Relay, Club Relay, University Relay and a Costume Fun Race. The race will go through Taicang Economic Development Area.

Due to a decision from the Taicang Traffic Control Bureau, the Elite Groups race will now be 65 km in total (instead of 87 km). The first lap is going to be 15 km and the last four laps will be 12.5 km (15+12.5x4=65 km). The Open Group race will be changed to 30 km in total (instead of 32.4 km before)with two laps of 15 km. The middle school group will go one lap of 15 km.

The company relay, university relay and club relay will go four laps of 10 kilometers (instead of 13 km before) totaling 40 km in counter-clockwise direction.  The children’s race will take place in the festival arena. The festival lasts for two days with the professional, amateur and children’s race on the first day. The relay races will be held on the second day together with the costume fun race.

In addition to the race, there will be music performances by an international band, a BMX show and barbecue evening. A big exhibition area will be open during the two days where exhibitors from the bike, outdoor sports and travel industry can be seen.
