Important things before going to Inner Mongolia

General:
1. The sun is strong on the grassland. Please remember to bring a sun-cap, shades and adequate sun block.
2. The temperature difference between night and day is quite big and the weather changes fast. Remember to bring some warm clothes plus rain clothes
3. Most meat dishes will be mutton so its good to take some food that you like with you if you can not or dont like to eat mutton.
4. If you stay in the mongolian yurts on friday night, it is good to take your own bathroom articles with you such as shower creme, toothbrush, slippers etc.
5. Mosquito repellent is a must
6. It is also good to take some anti inflammatory medicine with you

When cycling:
1. Dont forget to bring your helmet
2. Bring some of your own spare parts and tools
3. The race distances are long, so it is good to prepare physically for the race and do it according to ones own conditions   

Fun facts: Mongolian etiquette and custom
Mongolians are friendly to guests and are particular about propriety. There are many codes of conduct that should be respected between host and guest. When the host greets the guest, the host should stand outside the west door of the yurt and bid him to drink. At dinner, the food often consist of whole roasted mutton. When seeing the guest off, the host should follow him outside the yurt or to the outter rim of the yurt village. He should also help his guest on to his horse. When he sees that the guest has got a bit on his way, the host can go back.

The guest should unmount his horse at the back of the yurt and not lead the horse in to the yurt; he should not hit the livestock and the dogs or ride his horse into the sheep flock. The guest must not make compliment to the hosts' children or his livestock. He can not go into the yurt without been given permission; he should not sit down wherever he pleases, squat, stretch his legs to the northwest or to the cooking range. A guest must not spit and not stride over the hosts clothes, pillow or bed cover.

When going out, the guest must not step on the door step. You can not use a pipe, chopsticks or a knife to point at somebodys head; gifts should be given in pairs and handed over with two hands; it is taboo to use one hand  and even a bigger taboo to accept a gift with your left hand. When taking leave, guest should go out on the left side of the yurt door, when outside, you should not immediately sit up on your horse or get in the car.
