Swedish Peter Myhlback won the Volvo Ski Sprint in Changchun in the north of China. He won the final with two meters in front of Tian Ye.
Myhlback has been on the Swedish National Team a few seasons, but is best in classical style races. His luggage also went missing on the way to China, and he had to borrow skis. That evidently worked out well.
In a few months the world elite will be gathered at the same place – to participate in China’s first ever FIS World Cup race.

History
Cross-country skiing in the absolute center of Beijing - is that really possible? The answer is yes. For the first time ever in history, world-class cross-country skiers competed in the Chinese capital on December 30 2003 as Nordic Ways - in collaboration with the Chinese Ski Association and the Beijing Sports Bureau - brought the first ever Volvo Beijing Ski Sprint.
In this evening event, the Beijingers had an opportunity to see Olympic & World Champions and top skiers from nine countries racing four-by-four on a 1,100 m track in Chaoyang Park in central Beijing. Live on the outdoor stage was Robert Wells, performing with his 15 piece band.
The second Volvo Ski Sprint Series 2004 – with status as FIS Continental Cup – was held in Beijing on December 29 and in Changchun December 31, presenting an event of an even larger scope with world skiers and entertainment by Chinese pop star Wang Feng.
