The fifth Vasaloppet China spectacularly took place on January 1st and 2nd, 2007, at Jingyuetan National Forest Park in Changchun.
Cooperated by Nordic Ways Company, Changchun government and Chinese Ski Association, this event marked a new step with more than 16200 people taking part in it.
People from all over the world joined this event, especially from Norway and Sweden. The participants ranged from children to seniors, with the oldest participant at an age of 68
There were also elite skiers participating, making the event even more attractive.
The whole program included the Volvo ski Sprint on January 1st, and on the second of January the 50km and 16.7km events, as well as Vasaloppet Children and the college student race
The champion in the Volvo Ski Sprint was Stanislav Rezac from the Czech Republic in the men’s group, and Chinese skier Wang Chunli in the women’s group.
Stanislav Rezac also won the 50-km the next day, and Wang Chunli also repeated her achievement the following day.
The winner of the men’s 16.7-km event was Martin Vister, while Hanve Faluestrom won the women’s 16.7 km.
Perhaps the most spectacular scene of this event was the mass start of almost 2000 people, most college students, starting simultaneously with CCTV, EBU and other TV stations broadcasting it to the whole world, thus bringing Vasaloppet China close to them.
With participants from different countries, this event not only promoted the Vasaloppet China worldwide, but also stood as a good means of exchange in culture & business, as well as showing the fascinating image of Changchun. The event is not meaningful merely for the sport itself, but also as good means of exercise for all participants.
