Following the past year’s rapid development of X-country skiing in the country, the time has come for China to host its first FIS World Cup competition.

On March 15 2006,  China – a newly developing ski nation proved to the world her ability to stay stronger in ski world by hosting its history making FIS Sprint World Cup Season’s Final in the city of Changchun! 79 elite skiers from 10 over countries joined the fight including the future stars from Chinese Cross Country Skiing Team. Jointly organized by Chinese Ski Association, the City of Changchun and Nordic Ways, the competition marks the first of its kind in China.

Ski sprint is the ski discipline that has gained most popularity and attention in the past few years—with good reason. It is simply the most exciting form of ski racing. Set in an outdoor sports stadium, the skiers race two loops altogether 1,000 meters—a format almost identical to Track&Field long distance running.

Thobias Fredriksson from Sweden and Marit Bjoergen from Norway laughed to the end during men and women´s race respectively.
