An astonishing atmosphere, spectacular performances, an amazing audience, and around 500 thrilled bikers. Those are a few words that can summarize the fourth Great Wall Bike Festival, which took place in the stunning nature in Badaling Ski Resort in 2007.
Bikers in all ages had gathered to bike in the eight different races that were scheduled during the day. Piers Touzel, the winner of Huangshan MTB Festival earlier this year, was the strongest biker in the Elite Race and finished his 6 laps in 55 minutes and 46 seconds, which was 43 seconds before number two 朱志华. Piers also took a second place during the day in the club relay, when his team had to see themselves defeated by Hong Kong Grey Silver Cycling Club.
In the open race (10K), 吕桃涛 finished as the best woman, it was an easy victory as she completed the race as much as 4 minutes before her fastest competitor. Around 50 seconds before her, 周楚燕 crossed the finish line as the winner in the Men’s Open Race. During these two first races a new electronic time keeping system provided by the Swedish company EST was tested. This system is used in many big races in Sweden, among other Swedens' biggest road race; Vatternrundan. It turned out to be very helpful and Nordic Ways have great intentions of a future cooperation with EST.
During the afternoon there were three relay races on the program, the first one was the University relay that was dominated by 北京体育大学一队. The Club relay was as already mentioned won by Hong Kong Grey Silver Cycling Club, with the champion from the womens' open race 吕桃涛 in the lead. In the last race of the day, Sony Ericsson had the strongest team and could proudly entitle themselves as winners in the 2007 Company relay.
To round off this short review we must say that even though the sun decided not to make an appearance, this Saturday was a lovely day in the mountains of Badaling in many aspects. Thanks to all our bikers, sponsors, performers, supporters, and faithful bike fans a wonderful atmosphere appeared in the arena the whole day, which actually is much better than the sunniest sunshine one can ever imagine.
