Last week, the annual meeting of the Vasa Education Project was held at Vasa Hotel in Jingyuetan Park, Present were Jilin Province Education Bureau, representatives from Jingyuetan Park and teachers from 17 universities, discussing the project where students get the chance to practice cross country skiing throughout the winter months in the Park.

Due to lack of ski equipment, the number of students who gets to train will be no more than last year’s which was about 70.000 in total. Meanwhile, because of spread of the H1N1 flu, some universities are now closed. Hopefully, they will be open in November when the ski season begins.

       This year, Jilin Education Bureau will invite the Secretary-General of China University Sport Union to the 5^th Jilin Province University Students XC Ski Competition on the 24^th of December or to Vasaloppet on the 2^nd of January. His visit might bring an opportunity of organizing the National University Students XC Ski Competition or Northeast Asian University Students XC Ski Competition in the future!

In 2009, the Changchun students taking part in Vasa Ski Education project will ski on a new track with a different stretch than last year, hopefully they can have even more fun and get even better at cross country skiing with it!

 
About a week after having held their own competition, the Changchun students will also take part in Vasaloppet China on January 2. Many students from the city also work as volunteers during the Vasa days, helping out with registrations, logistics, information, overseeing the track and handing out blueberry soup to the skiers during the race.
